High hopes characterized the Brothers Varsity Grid- ders as they began their Fall season. An initial win against OHSL opponent ES-M suggested promising league play. However, successive losses dampened their enthusiasm. Key performances on offense by Quarter back Steve Locey and Juniors Steve Coker, Billy Owens and Mike Buck and on defense by Seniors Dom Adornato, Vince Martinez and Tom Brogan as well helped spark the team in several close matches. It wasn’t until the Brothers met league leader Hen- ninger that the season began to turn around. In a hotly contested game, the Brothers displayed fine playing
action, crippling the Knights’ running game. Coach Robert Campbell’s defensive strategy held their op ponents to a two point victory.
The disappointments of the early season were wiped out by a stunning victory over perennial foe Bishop Ludden on a muddy field. Always a sweet victoty, this contest gave the haggard gridders hopes for a building year next fall. The large number of returning under classmen including Sophomores Kevin Burdick and Bill Snow promise an exciting grudge match next season.
Vince Martinez meets the unfortunate Spartan.
The Brothers' defensive line prepares to ground the attack.
While Steve Locey prepares to handoff, Mike Matthewson and
Thomas awaits pass from Locey.
