 A Record Year
Nineteen ninety-two has been a year full of many events. From the joys
of the Summer Olympics to the sadness of hurricane Andrew, we have
seen life's trials and tribulations. In the Summer Olympics we saw how
Americans handled world sports with a touch of class. Many records and
traditions were broken. For example a Canadian runner was given the title
of fastest man in the world instead of Carl Lewis. However, our male and
female swimmers did very well, especially in the relay races. We will always
remember the stunning Dave and the amazing Dan, and how Dan O'Brien
failed in the pole vault in the Olympic Trials. Finally, there was Jackie
Joyner-Kersee, who won the heptathlon once again.
Another issue of great importance from this year is the presidential
election. On the scene are incumbent, George Bush, Governor Bill Clinton,
and Ross Perot, who dropped out of the race but is considering reentering.
Out of 40 students polled, 23 felt Clinton would be elected versus 17 for
Bush.
A final issue which has touched many Americans is hurricane Andrew.
This horrible storm cut a path of destruction through Florida leaving more
than 200,000 people homeless and without food. America has shown its
support through aid to the Red Cross and food donations from churches
and businesses. A plus side of hurricane Andrew is that new jobs are being
created as a result of the need to rebuild houses.
We have experienced many events and world occurrences that have
touched our lives. What we experience now will stay with us and help us
form values and make decisions in life.
The New York Times is always
within reach, especially at CBA.
These students take time to check
the presidential polls to see who
is ahead.
Everyday events affect the lives
of students everywhere. This up
date of the Clarence Thomas-
Anita Hills case was undoubt
edly one of the most intriguing
news reports for all students to
read.
