ON THE
VERGE
Science Olympiad
Getting involved in Science Olympiad can mean trajec
tories, mousetraps, and simple machines. It is a fun way
for any student in the eighth or ninth grade to take a giant
leap into the world of creative experimentation.
Last year under the fine leadership of Mr. Schnipp, the
Science Olympiad team beat North Syracuse Junior High
School to finish first in the regionals at LeMoyne College.
When we got to the State Finals, we were in a state of
euphoria because we knew our team's success could take
us to the Nationals. Despite a very strong showing, we were
only able to manage a close third which was only one place
out of Nationals, and only eleven points from first. Although
we were discouraged, we were proud of our achievements
over the past six months and were excited by the possibility
of doing better next year.
Science class involves taking
measurements and making ob
servations. In Mr. Knight's sci
ence class a junior high student
practices these skills.
Science labs are an essential
part of school curriculum. Eighth
grader, John Sivela, works on
an engrossing experiment.
