BIOGRAPHY
Branko Filipovic Filo, painter, born in Cetinje on July 2761924. In 1936, after

continued his education at the Sixth Men's High School. He returns to Cetinje in 1941
and a year later he was interned as a hostage in Albania (Kavaja). He was pardoned and
released in 1943 since he was underage. He was mobilized in the National Liberation
Movement in 1944.

On the suggestion of Milo Milunovic, in 1947 he enrolled in the Artistic School in Ceti-
nje, with Professor Petar Lubarda. After this school was moved to Herceg Novi he left for
Belgrade where he attended the School of Applied Arts. By the end of 1950 he moved to
Herceg Novi and continued his education at the Artistic School, in the class of Professor
Mirko Kujacic. He participates at the II Federal exhibition in Cetinje in 1951; after this
event Ivan Tabakovic proposes him for cooperation with Milo Milunovic. He completed
studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade and a specialist course with professor
Milo Milunovic in Belgrade in 1955. Along with the studies at the Academy he attended
the Art workshop with jaroslav Kratina, where under the influence of fresco painting he
experimented with painting materials. He attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.

mation and the member of the Penelope gallery in Rome. He collaborated with famous
galleries in Paris Rive Gauche and Lambert.
He had 57 individual exhibitions — Cetinje, Titograd, Belgrade, Rome, Zagreb, Brussels,
Vierma, Paris, Ulcinj, Sombor, Budva, Bari, Duisburg, Kraljevo, Herceg Novi, Novi Sad,
Ljubljana, Piran... He participated at over 200 collective exhibitions at home and abroad
— Alexandria, Sarajevo, Paris, Belgrade, Dubrovnik Pancevo, New York, Montreal, Beirut,
Fontainebleau, Milan, Bari, Yerevan, Tournai, Hasselt, Charlerois, Tunis, Cairo, Nicosia,
Ankara, Varna, Berlin, Moscow, Stuctgart, Frankfurt, Cyprus, Xanthi, Rome, Budabest„
Limasol, Kostroma...
He was representative of Yugoslavia at the 44th Veniee Biennial in 1990.
His artworks are represented in many museums and galleries — Belgrade, cetinje, Brussels,

London, New York, Vienna, Lugano, Freiburg...as well as in private collections at home
and abroad.
He received many awards and aknowledgments, among which: the Federal Award for
Painting 1962; the November 13th Salon Award, Cetinje, 1967; the July 13th Award,
1969; Acquisition Award at the 15th Nadezda Petrovic Memorial, Caeak, 1989. Posthu-
rnously, in 2000, he was awarded the Petar Lubarda Award for exceptional art work.
He was elected associate member of the Montenegrin Academy of Sdences and Arts on
November 26th 1991 abd full member on December 6th 1996.
From 1950 he was member of the Association of Fine Anisrs of Montenegro and from
1954 member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia.
Branko Filipović Filo passed away in Belgrade on November 7th 1997,
