When this bleeding decreases, a leech can be applied to drain venous congestion. The leech
               will also release an anticoagulant substance, helping to restore bleeding. As shown in the
               lower photograph, the leech becomes engorged with blood and will eventually fall off or can
               be manually removed from the wound.
