I would also like to dedicate this chapter on microsurgery to my friend, Dr. Julien DEFAYS,
who introduced me to this field and without whom this chapter would not have seen the
light of day.
I had the opportunity to begin exploring this discipline during my internship in plastic
surgery. At that time, he was a specialist assistant, while I was starting my specialization as a
junior assistant. We spent countless hours in the microsurgery laboratory.
He patiently taught me how to perform arterial microsurgical sutures. This experience later
enabled me to carry out nerve and vascular repairs, paving the way for more complex
reconstructions, such as replantations, toe transfers, and free flaps.
