Kui Dong is a professor of Music Composition and served as Department of Music
Chair (2018-20) at Dartmouth College. When not writing music, she occasionally
performs free improvisation on piano and writes prose fiction. She is currently
working on a comic chamber opera titled Hu Tong and a solo cello piece.
HONG WANG
Multi-instrumentalist
Hong Wang is the founder of the
MELODY OF CHINA ensemble in the
San Francisco area; co-founder of the
PANGEA PROJECT; Music Director of
the National Music Campaign Revival
of the China Record Group, National
Concert Hall and Beijing’s China Music
House; and a Music Researcher for the
China Conservatory of Music. He has
been a multi-instrumentalist for the
studio recordings of many films, TV episodes, games and music productions,
including eight episodes of the animated TV show, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of
Awesomeness, and 60 episodes of The Legend of Korra.
As a touring musician, Hong Wang has performed with Berlin Philharmonic,
San Francisco Symphony, California Symphony, Neubrandenburg Philharmonic,
Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg, Fremont Symphony, Shanghai Broadcasting
Symphony and more. As multi-instrumentalist, he has worked with the Lincoln
Center Arts Festival, Spoleto Festival, Luminato Festival (Canada), Amsterdam
Music Festival (Holland), Kochi Arts Festival (Japan), Tanz Festival (Germany),
Letni Festival (Poland), New Music Festival (Belgium), Monterey Jazz Festival, San
Francisco Jazz Festival, SF World Music Festival and more.
In 2023, he was invited by Netflix to play various Chinese instruments for the first
season of Avatar: The Last Airbender and was recently invited to record for the
second season of Avatar. In 2024, he was also invited to participate in the global
tour of Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert in the UK, US, Germany, France,
Netherlands, Belgium and Australia. He also recently performed with the Malaysia
Philharmonic and will continue his tour in Australia in 2025.
The Conejo Chinese Cultural Association will present a traditional lion dance
during Intermission Insights at the Saturday concert. The Lion Dance Team
includes Xiaomei Meng, Sally Zou, Anthony Yang, David Wan, Sigdney
Haycock, Noemi Husk, Ethan Kong, Emily Kong, Evan Kong and Eric Kong.
