UNIT 5: SALIENT FEATURES OF SHARĪ'AH
As mentioned earlier, Sharī’ah consists of three fundamental components.
An in-depth contemplation and comprehension of these components suggest
that, there are five main salient features of Sharī’ah:
1. Divinely Origin
2. Universal
4. Completeness
5. Moderate
Diagram 3 : Salient Features of Sharī'ah
1. Divinely Origin (Rabbāniyyah)
Rabbāniyyah denotes that Sharī’ah is a law which is based on divine
revelation. The sources, objectives, methods and the purposes of life
of human being in Islām have been determined by Allāh SWT.
Furthermore, the divine value indicates that the ultimate goal of
Muslims is to attain Allāh’s SWT love and pleasure (riḍwān Allāh).
Islām allows Muslims to attain the worldly pleasure, but all their
efforts to attain the pleasure in the world must serve the ultimate
goal of life, which is, to please Allāh SWT and gain His rewards. Thus,
every tenet of the Islamic law aims at preparing man to be a pure
servant of Allāh SWT only.
The proof of Rabbāniyyah is evident as follows:
a. The impeccable of the Qur’ān in terms of scientific explanation,
linguistic, factual contradiction and many others.
b. Futuristic report of Prophetic traditions which came true in
modern time.
2. Universal (‘Ālamiyyah)
Allāh SWT sent the Prophet Muhammad SAW, for the whole universe
to complete the mission of the earlier Prophets AS. The message of
Prophet Muhammad SAW is for the whole of mankind.
Allāh SWT says:
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”
(al-Anbiyā’ 21: 107)
