Bunyan overheard several old women talking of the Bible and God. Their joy impressed him and

       he eventually believed.

Bunyan suffered in many ways. These included: -

          1. His wife died, leaving him with four children, although Bunyan did remarry and

              had two more children.

          2. They were poor. Bunyan could not work so he made bootlaces and sold them.

          3. He suffered from attacks of worry and despair about his family.

In 1672, whilst still in prison, a Bedford church called him to be a pastor. Bunyan saw suffering

as part of his ministry. Jeremiah 49:11 helped him to trust God for his family. Giant Despair’s

castle in ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’ reflects Bunyan’s depression.

Bunyan wrote 60 other books. His autobiography is called ‘Grace Abounding’.

He died of a fever but left a powerful legacy in ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’ and a church that still

meets today, 330 years after his death.

Have you ever wondered why some Baptist churches are built in the middle of no where? It is

the result of ____________________. Baptists were ________________; a

___________________group of Puritans which broke away from the ___________ church in order

to pattern themselves on the _____________________ churches?
