Lesson 2-5

            5. Identify the highest mountains in this country and across the world, eg Ben Nevis,
Everest, Kilimanjaro, Mount Blanc, Mount McKinley.

            6. Remind the children of the way in which high ground is marked on ordnance survey
                maps with contour lines.

            7. Over the two weeks, spend time, show pictures, DVDs, etc of how fold, block, and
volcanic mountains are formed. The children could consolidate their learning through

the use of the worksheets. Some may also extend their work, either at school or at
home, through information found on the Internet.

            8. Talk about the three main types of rock – sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic and
                how they are formed.

            9. Gather back at the end of the lessons to give the children a quiz on the main points
                of the worksheets.

            10. Thank God for the mountains we can climb and for the amazing scenery we can enjoy
in mountainous regions or even from high points in our local landscape.
