Lesson 2-5
                                                    MOUNTAINS

        Truth to Teach (Source)

Isaiah 40:12b ‘Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the
mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?’

 God created mountains in the first instance but they are for ever changing

 Mountains are places to gain vision and perspective

 Significant mountains mentioned in the Bible

 Identifying the main mountain ranges across the world

 The crust of the earth is made up of plates

 How fold, block and volcanic mountains are formed

 Three types of rock – sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Review the previous lesson.

            2. Read and briefly discuss God’s creative power stated in the above verse. Recall with
the children the biblical characters like Moses and Jesus who often went up to the
top of a mountain to speak with God. Talk about the wonder of climbing to high places

                to get perspective and vision.

            3. Talk about the crust of the earth being made up of plates which can move. Show a
map of the world with the plates – Gorda, Nazca, African, Indian, American, Cocos,

Pacific, Eurasian, Arabia and Antarctic. Talk about the effects of the plates moving –
                earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.

            4. Let the children use atlases to point out the main mountain ranges across the earth,
eg Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Atlas. They could fill the mountains in on a world

                map.
