5.7 LIS celebrates 77th birthday
On 26 July 2023, the LIS celebrated its 77th birthday in the Library atrium. The event was opened by the Acting Executive Director, Dr K Marumo, and featured retired staff members (Ms Terry-Lynne Harris and Ms Ansie van der Westhuizen), as well as current staff members (Ms Lindi Nhlapo and Mr Amos Makubyana), who reviewed the Library’s history from 1946 to 2023. A musical item was provided by Mr Robert Pearce (former Director for Client Services at the LIS), and the Unisa staff choir entertained attendees, while Dr Buhle Mbambo-Thata (former Executive Director) delivered a speech on LIS highlights. The birthday celebration was closed with the cutting of the birthday cake by the Portfolio Vice-Principal, Prof Thenjiwe Meyiwa.
