 7.2 Policies
The LIS has various policies in place to ensure proper management and maintenance of Library resources. During 2023, the LIS reviewed the following three policies:
• Library Lending and Interlibrary Loan Policy • Library Access Policy
• Collection Development Policy
A new policy on Library Digital Preservation was approved by the Unisa Council in 2023. The policy enables the LIS to undertake long-term preservation of digital content to ensure future access to the content.
7.3 Quality assurance
The LIS monitors the quality of resources and services through annual service evaluations, institutional and/ or internal quality reviews and external quality reviews. Implementation plans are developed by the Library Quality Committee (LQC) and monitored by the Library Management Team and Library Executive Team. During 2023, the LIS was commended for its state-of-the-art library services in the Unisa Council on Higher Education (CHE) Institutional Audit:
 The LIS further embarked on various quality initiatives during 2023. Critical areas for improvement were identified from the Unisa Student Satisfaction Survey (USSS), departmental and specific service evaluations, as well as research projects. This information enables the LIS to improve on its resources and service provision to all Unisa staff and students in the areas of teaching and learning, research and community engagement. The quality improvement initiatives implemented during 2023 were as follows.
