DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
A. Learning Objectives
After studying this module, you gain knowledge about the meaning of
descriptive text, social functions, generic structure, and various descriptive
texts, and can describe something that is around.
B. Description of Material
We often mention the characteristics of something. Mentioning the
characteristics of something is the same as describing something. So,
descriptive text is text that aims to explain, describe, or describe
something. This something in shape can be anything, be it animals, objects,
locations, and so on. Usually, descriptive text is characterized by the use of
easy tense and focus on one specific object. The object is then discussed
again in more detail in the descriptive text.
The social function of descriptive text is to describe or explain the
particular person, animal, or places.
There’s also the generic structure of descriptive text.
a) Identification: an overview of a topic.
This section is usually in the initial paragraph. This descriptive text
structure aims to describe what will be discussed in the paragraph.
That's why it's just general information.
For example, you want to make a descriptive text example about the
place. The identification section can be filled in about where the place
is located, what country it is in, or what area.
