Acrison ® ‘Strand-Type’ Materials
Acrison ® VOLUMETRIC
FEEDER
Acrison ® Model 905-14
Background
Processors who must feed strand-type
materials into their processes, typically
with lengths of about 0.4 to 0.75 inches or
more (e.g., fiberglass or the like), have historical-
ly found this to be a most challenging task,
whether the requirement is for volumetric or gravi-
metric metering. In addition, process parameters
usually require a relatively smooth discharge feed
stream, which due to the nature of such materials,
represents an additional challenge.
Basically, strand-type materials, typically
with lengths as indicated above, are diffi-
cult to feed uniformly and reliably because
the strands have a tendency to interlock
and form clumps that make consistently
accurate metering very difficult, especially
at feed rates less than 50 or 60 pounds per
hour. Further, metering mechanisms sup-
posedly capable of feeding such materi-
als often experience bridging within
their operating mechanisms and/or
supply hoppers, as well as inconsis-
tent, if not sporadic, material flow. As a
result, metering performance is not
accurate, reliable or consistent.
In combining a number of novel and
innovative technologies, Acrison’s
Model 905-14 Volumetric Feeder
has been specifically designed to
meter strand-type materials having
lengths as defined above, even
when such products contain a small
percentage of moisture.
