TERMINOLOGIES

The new norm in education requires new ways of teaching and
learning. Below are some terms that are present in this primer.

• BigBlueButton - refers to the feature of Schoology
which allows video conferences to be held in real
time. This feature will be used in synchronous

sessions and allows students to interact with teachers
in different ways.

• Learning Management System (LMS) - refers to
Schoology, the application used by the school to

facilitate students’ online courses and allows
interaction between student and teacher in both

real-time and non-real-time. Students can access
their courses, resources, lessons, announcements,
and other online tools using the LMS.

• Synchronous Session - refers to the period when the
teacher personally discusses his lesson with the
students with the LMS Conference Feature,
BigBlueButton. A synchronous session provides the

students with real-time interaction, mimicking the
setup of face-to-face classrooms. Teachers will

facilitate the class in real time to elaborate concepts
and ideas and demonstrate performance tasks for
students.
