** Asm. Carrillo is a current member of the Assembly who is active on Twitter. However, she did not assume office until after the
conclusion of the 2017 legislative session (December 16, 2017) and was not an Assembly member when the Digital Influencer scores were
calculated.
Overall, 98.7 percent of California Assembly Members have a Twitter profile, with Assembly
Member Tom Daly being the only Assembly Member without a profile. Several lawmakers use
more than one account, using them interchangeably, and in these situations, both handles are
cited.
Assembly Members with the highest influencer scores are current Republican Assembly
Leader Brian Dahle (82) and former Republican Assembly Leader Chad Mayes (79). The
Republican Assembly Caucus leadership change, which occurred close to the time the Digital
Influencer scores were pulled from Zignal Labs, likely contributed to this score. A review of
Twitter activity shows an increase in engagement during the election of Assembly
Member Dahle.
Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon also retains one of the highest influencer scores in the
Assembly (67). As the leader of the Assembly, Speaker Rendon was vocal on a number of high
profile policy issues, including President Donald Trump’s repeal of the Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and the attempts by Congress to repeal the Affordable
Care Act. He also helped lead #BringCAHome efforts.
Just as Speaker Rendon was vocal on Twitter, he was also mentioned heavily by organizations
for his decision to hold single-payer legislation, Senate Bill 562, in the Assembly Rules
Committee. Many of these organizations attempted to influence Speaker Rendon to move SB
562 leading up to the September 15 legislative deadline.
