                       Math & Science

                                                                                                             th
Have you ever made a torus ring, built a parachute, or lit up a flower lamp using electrolytes? On November 24 , our Math and
Science Day, SKIS students had the chance to participate in these projects to expand their understanding of how math and science
                       impacts our world.
The math session consisted of two programs: the experimental activities and a quiz show. During the experimental activities,
students interacted with various three-dimensional figures, such as creating a torus ring and ellipse forms and finding the Fermat
point using water bubbles. In the quiz show, students answered a series of questions related to historical math. Through these
activities, students learned how math can be applied to real life situations.
The science session took over in the afternoon hours. Students built parachutes, lit up flower lamps with electrolytes, and made
LED bouncy balls. For the parachute activity, students designed and built their models after considering which kind of materials are
best-suited to air travel and how the shape of the parachute affects air resistance.
Besides logical thinking, Math and Science Day allowed students to learn to collaborate with others. We were pleased to see
students working together to learn math and science concepts in more approachable and interesting ways.
