20 The 27th running of the British Isles Championships once
again saw Ireland win the most events, taking the Pairs,
Fours, the team title and the McDermott Bowl. It was Eng-
land’s turn to host the event as they did originally with the
inaugural event in 1985
Once again Potters International arena was the venue
for the Championships with some great bowling, although
England’s performance was generally quite poor, winning
just the triples after an amazing last game.
UNDEFEATED EVANS WINS
THE SINGLES FOR WALES
The Singles started with a win for John Quinn
with a 19 - 9 victory over Scotland’s Lawrence
Moffat. The damage was done with Quinn by
scoring 8 shots over the closing four ends. For
Wales, Andrew Evans had a blistering 11 shot
spell over six ends and finished up with a 20 - 4 Norfolk President Brian Saunders
win over Stephen Gale from the Isle-of-Man. bowls out the first ceremonial bowl.
The second round saw England’s Craig
Burgess firmly dumped 20 - 11 by Lawrence Moffat who also had a four end 12 shot spell during
the game. John Quinn kept his winning run with a 17 - 7 win over Stephen Gale.
Stephen next faced England’s Craig
Burgess and despite Craig taking two
shots on the last end Stephen held on for
a 13 - 12 victory, the first ever singles win
for the Isle-of-Man over England.
Andrew Evans returned to the fray
for Wales in an important game with Ire-
land’s John Quinn, with Andrew winning
eight consecutive ends during the game
with 16 shots contributing to his 19 - 8 vic-
tory.
Quinn then bounced back in his
next match, finishing off with a four to win
20 - 13 over Craig Burgess. Andrew
