GUILTY! In my haste to get out the last magazine and whilst
applying the stamps I had printed, I accidentally mixed up a
few non stamped magazines and duly sent them out.
This of course resulted in a few people having to pay ex-
cess postage, for which I am heartily sorry. If those affected
would let me know, by phone, 0121-286-9449, OR email
bobw@short-mat-magazine.com, then I will adjust your sub-
scription and extend it by an issue to compensate for the
costs incurred.
for those who pay by standing order I can refund your
costs or you can leave it as a donation to help with the maga-
zine costs? it’s up to you.

3rd INTERNATIONAL

SHORT MAT OPEN

This event took place at Havering IBC in Essex. This
non-ESMBA event was organised jointly by Craig
Burgess and Barry Hedges.

On the Saturday the competition was for
Fours for the David Hedges Trophy
whilst Sunday was for Pairs playing
for the John Burgess Trophy. The entry
fee was £20 per player.
The Fours were organised in
groups of 5 and David & Jo Newsome,
Ben Render and Bronagh Malone won 2
of their 4 group games and lost 2 quali-
fying them for the Plate KO where they
were eliminated in their first game.
On Sunday for the Pairs there were
40 entrants organised in 8 groups of 5 in
which Bronagh and Dave won all their
games but then lost after reaching the
last 16.
Jo and Ben however lost 1 and
won 3 and then progressed right through
to the final and claim the title of this
year’s International Pairs Champi-
onships, winning the John Burgess Cup
and £400.
