6 CHESHIRE VILLAGES
TOURNAMENT
TOURNAMENT
Starting way back in September last year and
many conflicts later, we eventually managed
the quarter finals in March. Padgate suc-
cumbed to Lach Dennis; failing to score a sin-
gle point.
Chorley Village Hall failed miserably
against Rudheath ‘A’; they unsuccessfully as-
sessed the mat, in the roll-up. ‘Lazers’ were
the wrong bowls, hence the 3 – 11 defeat.
Rudheath ‘B’ produced a valiant effort
against Burtonwood keeping level, early in the
match but eventually bowed out, not holding
their own in the triples. Rixton proved to be too
BURTONWOOD good for Croft ‘A’. Credit must go to Croft ‘A’ for
BURTONWOOD
Tournament Winners even turning out, considering that their captain,
Tournament Winners
Neville Bancroft, had passed away only days
before the quarter finals and they lost 5 – 9.
In the semi-finals, Lach Dennis beat their old
rivals Rudheath ‘A’; a tie on games was resolved by
overall points. In the other semi final, Rixton were
neck and neck against Burtonwood in the pairs but
the triples proved to be their “Achilles Heel”; finish-
ing down 6 – 8.
The Final was, again, very close to start with,
however, Lach Dennis conceded after five games.
Burtonwood was a new name for the Trophy Shield;
doing an excellent job for their first season in the
Cheshire Villages Indoor Bowling Tournament.
We also held a Pairs Competition run by

Stephen & Sheila Wilson. Bowlers drew a partner PAIRS WINNERS

from another village team to compete against simi- with co-organiser Sheila Wilson
lar pairings. In the final Alan Whitelegg & Peter Fen- with co-organiser Sheila Wilson
wick were vying with Neil Trownson & John Downs. Neil & John were behind the whole game
but were in need of two points at the last end.
With the last bowl to be delivered by Alan.
Neil had achieved the two points, with some out-
standing deliveries. Alan launched with weight, to
break up the head. Unfortunately his bowl caught
a stray bowl and was deflected off the mat; a win
for Neil and John! Phew!
