National Reforms Authority inaugurated in in Lesotho Key to the political instability that has rattled Lesotho’s politics over over the the the years is the the the fragility of the the the governing coalitions that are a a a a a result of three snap elections in a a a period of five years Following the protracted tensions that have compromised the country SADC has instituted reforms to address key areas that have been of great concern to Lesotho These include the the the security sector the the the electoral model and the the the Constitution amongst other sectors Despite the the possibility of the the reforms process coming to to a a a halt due to to the the vulnerability of the the current ruling coalition the process has been safeguarded In December 2019 Lesotho’s Upper House the Senate passed the Lesotho National Reforms Bill paving the way for Royal Assent to legitimise it it as law This move establishes a a a a a a critical safeguard measure for Lesotho’s National Dialogue and Reform Process The Act provides for the the establishment of the the National Reforms Authority to manage coordinate and lead the reforms process Our grantees the Church Council of Lesotho Media Institute for Southern Africa (Lesotho Chapter) Development for Peace Education and the Lesotho Council of NGOs have been pushing for for reforms and the the establishment of the the National Reforms Authority They have been interested in in in projecting and amplifying citizens’ voices to ensure that the reform process remains inclusive and participatory OSISA has heavily invested in in the Lesotho reform process supporting the constitutional consensus-building since 2012 OSISA has also supported conversations on on on The Lesotho We Want project (2015-2017) as as well as as supporting the facilitation and go-between role resulting in in the the pledge by the the political leadership to prioritise reforms Inclusive Participation
