e. The word’s derivation
Derivation, in linguistics, is the process of forming a

new word from an existing word, often by adding a

prefix or suffix, such as -ness or un-. For example,
happiness and unhappy derive from the root word

                      happy.
              6. Assessing Vocabulary

                       Discrete, objective, selective, context-independent
vocabulary test have been an important part of the

educational measurement scene for almost the whole of

                   the twentieth century (Read).
There are many ways in assessing or testing English

vocabulay. Thornbury offers multiple choice, gap-filing
and C-test (2002). Read however, also distinguish some

kinds of vocabulary test: multiple choice, completion
                   translation and matching (Read, 2002).

While, Nation has the other words to discribe

vocabulry test item: true/false test, definition completion
test, a sensitive multiple choice test, a translation test

(Nation 2000). Furthermore, Ur gives same kinds of it

such as: multiple choices, matching, odd one out, writing
sentence , dictation, dictation translation, gap filling,

translation, and sentence completion (Ur, 1996).
