Do not try to explain the situation to the police. Everything
you say can and will be held against you. You may get confused, nervous or scared so it’s best to remain silent until your
attorney comes.
Discussion:
*If the police tell you they will let you go home if you tell them the truth, understand they do not have that authority. It is only the decision of the District Attorney.
*Remember, the District Attorney does not represent YOU. They represent the alleged victims.
*There is also a good chance there is a video or audio recorder somewhere in the room. The Police do not have to tell you
that you are being recorded and probably won’t. And remember, the Police are allowed to lie to you.
*The Criminal Justice System is complicated and not always fair.
*You can most often avoid the Criminal Justice System by staying away from gangs and criminal activities.
*One criminal mistake can effect you’re entire life.
