of the Health Law specialization in 2019 and Employment Law and Labor Law specializations in
2022. She assisted in administering the first examinations in Employment Law and Labor Law in
the summer of 2022. She worked with the Board and the Advisory Commissions on revisions to
the Employment Law Standatads, Employment Law Exam Topics, Labor Law Standards, and
Labor Law Exam Topics, in order to begin accepting applications for these two (2) certifications
in 2021 and 2022. As of January 1, 2024, eleven (11) Employment Law specialists and two (2)
Labor Law specialists have met the requirements for board certification and were approved by
the LBLS Board.
Ms. Wegmann provided support regarding the two Resolutions filed by LBLS to amend
the Appellate Practice Standards and to amend the Health Law Standards, that were approved at
the June 6, 2024 House of Delegates meeting. She continues to assist the LBLS Board and the
Advisory Commissions in addressing issues concerning specialists, application deadlines, exam
schedules, and specialization CLEs, by scheduling in person and virtual meetings or by email.
Ms. Wegmann has worked with the Board to administer virtual proctored exams in Appellate
Practice and Family Law beginning in August 2020. In August 2023 the Board administered
virtual proctored exams in Appellate Practice and Family Law for the fourth consecutive year,
finding that virtual proctored exams seemed to encourage applicants from all over the state. The
remaining 2023 exams were administered as "take home" exams. There have been no "in person"
exams since 2020.
Ms. Wegmann works with MCLE and Program Sponsors to provide the necessary
documents to the Appellate Practice, Employment Law, Estate Planning and Administration,
Family Law, Health Law, Labor Law and Tax Law CLE Committees who review CLEs for
specialization credit. Once a CLE is approved for specialization credit, she updates the LBLS
Approved Course Calendar to include the approved CLE. Ms. Wegmann also updates and
monitors attendance records for approximately 400 board-certified specialists and applicants who
must attend approved specialization CLEs.
Ms. Wegmann keeps the LBLS Board informed and updated on the business of the
Advisory Commissions and issues concerning specialists, applications, and testing. She manages
the application process for nine (9) specializations and administers take home and/or virtual
examinations for seven specializations. She continues to work with the LSBAto update the LBLS
website and to migrate to the LSBA IT system. She works closely with the LBLS Board and the
Advisory Commissions on their agendas and attends and takes the minutes at their meetings.
Future projects include updating the Rules and Regulations of the LBLS; and the development of
a long-range strategic planto promote legal specialization to the bar and the public. Ms. Wegmann
encourages applications, interacts with board certified specialists, and provides information
regarding specialization at various CLEs attended by board certified specialists and potential
applicants. She also participates in ABA sponsored specialization meetings and seminars.
