IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT The LCLCE is pleased to provide you and the LSBA Board of Governors with a report on
the activities of the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education (LCLCE). As set forth
below, the LCLCE continues to promote and support educational programming in support of
BOARD OF DIRECTORS the rule of law in a variety of ways.
W. THOMAS ANGERS During the first quarter of 2023, the LCLCE organized 22 Judges/Lawyers in the Classroom
LAWRENCE J. CENTOLA, III presentations benefitting 1813 students. In addition to students and speakers, this program
involved teachers, district attorneys, school administrators, and members of the local law
HON. SYLVIA R. COOKS enforcement communities. Also during this time, the LCLCE Executive Director participated
HON. SCOTT J. CRICHTON in the four-hour Louisiana Bar Foundation Grantee Board & Staff Training.
BRIAN ENGERON In addition, the LCLCE began the organization of a four-hour CLE to be held at the
ALLISON C. FOSTER Louisiana State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Summer School. Lawyers and judges
will be afforded the opportunity to learn about the Lawyers/Judges in the Classroom program
C. KEVIN HAYES and it provides training and materials related to presentation topics. This program offers up
JEFFREY D. HUFFT to four hours of professionalism c redit. The LCLCE also began the organization of the six-
day Justice Catherine D. Kimball Summer Institute which will provide 36 hours of
HON. C. WENDELL MANNING professional development on the nationally acclaimed social studies curriculum, “We the
People”. The new Louisiana 2023-24 academic state standards for social studies will be fully

addressed at the Summer Institute. The LCLCE has received a grant from the U.S.
RYAN M. MCCABE Department of Education that will underwrite the costs of the Summer Institute. This
HON. JOHN J. MOLAISON program is available at no cost to participating teachers. This will be the first time that the
LCLCE organized a Summer Institute twice during the same fiscal year.

As of March 31, 2023, the LCLCE’s checking account balance was $458,721. Funds to assist

with operational expenses were received and deposited from the Louisiana State Bar
SHAYNA L. SONNIER Association, Louisiana Bar Foundation, and private contributions including those received
through the LSBA’s dues check-off option.
