No Employee will receive payment for sick leave beyond the amount of accrued sick leave to which
he/she is entitled at the time such leave is used. The LSBA will not advance sick leave against future
benefits. Absence due to illness or other sick leave in excess of an Employee’s accrued sick leave
benefits will be without pay, unless the Employee requests payment of accrued vacation benefits.
Sick leave is granted at the discretion of the Louisiana State Bar Association and shall not be construed
as a vested right of the Employee and shall lapse at the termination of employment with no
compensation for any unused accrued sick leave.
3.2 VACATION
Regular, full-time Employees are eligible for paid vacation leave. Vacation time is earned on an
Employee’s anniversary date. Paid vacation leave shall be accrued according to the following schedule:
Length of Service Days Accrued Per Year Maximum Carry Forward Days
0 but less than 5 years 10 (5/6 days per month) 10
5 but less than 10 years 15 (1¼ days per month) 15
10 but less than 15 years 18 (1½ days per month) 18
15 years and over 20 (1 2/3 days per month) 20
Vacation time begins to accumulate the day the Employee commences employment with the LSBA
and is credited on the last day of each month. An Employee must work at least six (6) continuous
months before being eligible to take accrued vacation leave. Vacation leave will be credited each year
on an Employee’s anniversary date, according to the above schedule.
It is the policy of the Louisiana State Bar Association that each Employee use accrued vacation leave
each year. The maximum amount of vacation leave which may be carried forward from one
anniversary year to the next is one year's worth of accumulation, as shown in the above schedule.
No Employee may take more than two consecutive weeks of vacation without the advance permission of
the Employee's immediate supervisor and the Executive Director. All vacation requests must be
submitted in writing, as far in advance as possible, to an Employee’s supervisor for approval.
The Executive Director may “advance” one week of vacation leave, for cause, but if the Employee leaves
before it is earned, the balance must be repaid to the LSBA.
Upon separation from employment with the LSBA, an Employee will be paid for any unused
accrued/earned vacation leave.
3.3 BIRTHDAYS
Each Employee is entitled to one day of paid leave on his or her birthday. Should the Employee's birthday
fall on a weekend, the Employee may take either the preceding Friday or following Monday off in
observance of his/her birthday. Birthday holidays not taken in accordance with this schedule shall be
forfeited.
