LOUISIANA STATE BAR ASSOCIATION
                                      Executive Director’s Report

                                           to Board of Governors

                                                  November 7, 2023

At this writing, we are roughly four months into the current fiscal year. The staff has been extremely
busy as we completed the closeout of FY 2022/2023 and began the audit of same. Having just
completed the first quarter of FY 2023/2024, many committees have held their initial meetings.
Below are a few highlights of where we are year-to-date.

               2023/2024 ATTORNEY REGISTRATION STATEMENT PROCESSING
The 2023/2024 Attorney Registration Statements were mailed in mid-May with a deadline of July 1,
2023. Of the LSBA’s 23,000+ members, 1,833 received notices of delinquency in early August. This
was down from 2,056 in 2022. The LSBA sent a number of emails to these individuals prior to the
September 12 certification of ineligibility date. As a result, 367 individuals were certified ineligible,
although 192 have complied (as of this date) and are now eligible to practice law. Complete
information on the single billing process is included in your Board materials.

For FY 2023/2024, the Executive Committee (under authority granted to it by the Board) approved
six dues waivers and denied one waiver.

               BAR ADMISSIONS
As you know, pursuant to a resolution signed by Chief Justice John L. Weimer on May 17, 2023, the
LSBA is now remitting $10 per member to the Committee on Bar Admissions to help offset the cost
of the admissions process (the resolution requires LADB to remit the same). In accordance with the
June 9, 2023 decision of the Board of Governors, the LSBA is making these payments quarterly. The
first payment was made in July and the second in October. Subsequent payments will be made in
               January 2024 and April 2024.

The LSBA has requested and received a greater presence at the Bar Admissions Ceremonies. While
the President and YLD Chair have always made welcoming remarks to the candidates for admission,
the LSBA now has tables in the ceremony foyer where we provide information on the Transition Into
Practice (TIP) program, how to secure LSBA photo ID cards, and other information on LSBA
programs and member benefits. We are also bringing a LSBA photo backdrop where newly admitted
attorneys may take photos. At the October Admissions Ceremony, President Shanya Sonnier, YLD
Chair Senae Hall, Chief Justice John Weimer and Justice Piper Griffin were all on hand to greet the
candidates for admission and take photos with them (if requested).

               MEMORIAL EXERCISES
Each year the LSBA, under the auspices of the Louisiana Supreme Court, hosts a memorial service
at the Chief Justice Pascal F. Calogero, Jr. Courthouse. This service includes a reading of the names
of all judges and lawyers who have passed away in the prior year, along with a general eulogy.
Families of the deceased are invited to attend. The 2023 ceremony was held on Monday, October 2
               and included:
