• Invocation and Benediction by a local Deacon and Rabbi.
This event is always held on the first Monday in October and immediately follows the Red Mass
sponsored by the St. Thomas More Catholic Lawyers Association at St. Louis Cathedral.
LOUISIANA BAR CENTER
The waterproofing project originally scheduled for the 22/23 fiscal year is currently underway,
scheduled to be completed by late 2023 or early 2024. Expenses will be higher than originally
projected due to some hidden issues. Even with the additional charges, cost is still tens of thousands
less than the next lowest bid. An amendment to the budget will be on the agenda for both the Budget
Committee and Board of Governors. This project was last done in 2012.
MIDYEAR MEETING
The Midyear Meeting will be held Thursday, January 18 to Saturday, January 20, at the Renaissance
Baton Rouge Hotel. As is traditional, the LSBA will honor 50, 60 and 70-year members at the Friday
evening reception. The reception will be followed by the joint dinner with the Louisiana Bar
Foundation Board of Directors, scheduled to be held at Juban’s Restaurant. Events of interest to Board
members include:
• Editorial Board Meeting – noon – 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 18
• Budget Committee Meeting (with financial advisors) – 4 p.m., Thursday, January 18
• Young Lawyers Division CLE (virtual) – 7:30 a.m., Friday, January 19
• Louisiana Bar Foundation Board of Directors – 10 a.m., Friday, January 19
• Section Council Meeting – 11 a.m., Friday, January 19
• Senior Lawyers Division Luncheon – 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 19
• LCLCE Board of Directors Meeting – 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 19
• Board of Governors Meeting – 2 p.m., Friday, January 19
• Young Lawyers Division Council Meeting – 4 p.m., Friday, January 19
• House of Delegates Meeting (hybrid) – 9 a.m., January 20
STAFF
The LSBA staff is currently comprised of 48 full-time employees. Included in this number are one
Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization employee and one Louisiana Center for Law and Civic
Education employee, both of whom are compensated by their respective organizations.
Of the LSBA’s 48 employees, 38 (79%) are women and ten (21%) are men. Fourteen (29%) have
been with us for 10 years or more, nine (19%) have been with us 20 years or more, and two (4%)
have been with us more than 30 years. Many of our staff members have spoken at statewide and
national meetings, and a number are active in the National Association of Bar Executives, Association
of CLE Administrators and other professional groups. Practice Management Counsel Shawn L.
Holahan was recently invited to join the College of Law Practice Management, a by-invitation-only
group of approximately 300 people who make significant and sustained contributions to the
advancement of law practice management. The criteria are stringent and require nominations from
