DIVERSITY
The Diversity Committee has worked to increase awareness of diversity, inclusion, and cultural
competency issues and to assist in encouraging racial, ethnic, gender, generational, sexual
orientation, geographic, and disability diversity within the Bar.
Diversity Statement of Principles
On April 4, 2009, the LSBA Board of Governors approved a Statement of Diversity Principles for
dissemination to and execution by lawyers, judges, law firms and law departments within the state.
The Statement reflects the recognition that meaningful diversity advancements occur when the
leaders in an organization embrace diversity and inclusion and demonstrate through their actions
that diversity and inclusion is a priority to the organization. By executing the Statement, the
attorneys, judges, law firms, law departments and entities agree to use their best efforts to increase
the diversity in their hiring, retention and promotion of attorneys, and the elevation of attorneys to
leadership positions within their organizations.
To date, the LSBA has approximately 414 signatories.
The entire list of signatories is available on the LSBA website on the Member Outreach and
Diversity Department webpage at:
http://www.lsba.org/Diversity/DiversityPrinciples.aspx.
