House of Delegates Resolution
Demarcus J. Gordon, Diversity Committee member and Chair of the Minority Involvement
Section, with feedback from the recognition committee, prepared a House of Delegates resolution
to acknowledge Chief Justice Johnson’s retirement and service to the Diversity Committee and the
legal profession.
The House of Delegates resolution recognizing Chief Justice Johnson (Ret.) was approved on
January 23, 2021.
Recognition at Conclave
Mayor LaToya Cantrell presented a key to the city of New Orleans to Chief Justice Johnson (Ret.)

at the 13 Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession on August 13, 2021.
Memory Book
The recognition committee, with the assistance of Judge Rachael Johnson and the Louisiana
Supreme Court staff, compiled a timeline of photographs from Chief Justice Johnson’s legal

career. The memory book was also presented to Chief Justice Johnson (Ret.) at the 13 Annual
Conclave.
Traveling Exhibit
A traveling exhibit will be created that highlights significant events in Chief Justice Johnson’s life
and legal career. This project is ongoing.
Conclave
Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession

On March 7, 2008, the LSBA held a historic inaugural Conclave on Diversity in the Legal
Profession, for approximately 120 attendees, to begin a discussion among attorneys regarding
racial, ethnic, gender, and generational diversity. The LSBA hosted the one-day Conclave in
cooperation with the Louisiana Supreme Court and several local and specialty bar associations.
The Conclave has occurred annually since that time (*not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus
pandemic).

The 15 Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession will be held on August 11, 2023,
at the Four Seasons New Orleans Hotel. The theme of the Conclave: Look Within and Accelerate
Change.
