Justice Community Conference.
o The Pro Bono Subcommittee also held a roundtable at the
virtual Justice Conference to discuss common issues related to
the pandemic and the rollout of the new probono.net site.
o The subcommittee continues to meet every two months to
discuss issues relevant to pro bono.
o On Thursday, October 14th the subcommittee met virtually for a
Pro Bono Roundtable. This meeting included a one hour
presented from Cheryl Zalenksi with the ABA’s Center for Pro
Bono and a one hour meeting of the subcommittee to discuss
important issues and upcoming projects.
o As part of a subcommittee initiative, the 20 in 2022 pro bono
campaign was launched. To date a letter from the Chief Justice
and all the Associate judges was sent to the state’s judges and
entire LSBA membership. Minor Pipes authored an article for
the June edition of the LSBA Bar Briefs. In addition, there will
be a social media campaign featuring volunteers and a CLE
training during the Bridging the Gap CLE in May as well as the
Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Bench Bar Conference.
o A pro bono professionalism CLE will be included in the West
Monroe, Bossier City, and Lake Charles Four Corners CLE
presentations at the end of June as part of the 20 in 2022 pro
bono campaign.
o One hour of professionalism was provided for the October
Bridging the Gap CLE Program, this hour featured many
aspects of the ATJ Department and the work of The Pro Bono
Project. Attendees learned of the numerous ways providing pro
bono work can enhance one’s skills and legal practice.
▪ Continue to develop Volunteer Attorney Outreach;
o Coordinate annual Lawyers in Libraries
Developed and launched new website to match attorneys
across the state with events at 93+ library branches.
Successfully recruited 102 attorney volunteers for more than
120 events in libraries across the state as part of Lawyers in
Libraries held during National Celebrate Pro Bono Week
(October 21-26, 2019).
Developed virtual events for 2020’s “Lawyers AND Libraries” so
lawyers across the state can continue to help Louisianans with
their legal issues. Successfully recruited over 70 attorney
volunteers for virtual Lawyers AND Libraries events held during
National Celebrate Pro Bono Week (October 26-31, 2020).
Volunteer attorneys assisted over 84 patrons from 25 parishes
