I am happy to report that the Professional Programs Department continues to operate smoothly. The
purpose of this report is to provide the Board with some departmental highlights.

COMMITTEE ON THE PROFESSION

1L Law School Professionalism Orientation Programs

The LSBA’s Committee on the Profession 1L orientations on professionalism are usually held at the
law schools every August. This program was implemented twenty two years ago and is designed to
st
introduce the concept or professionalism to 1 year law students. Volunteer lawyers and judges
participate in the program at each of the four law schools. Students and volunteer lawyers and judges
are placed in break-out groups with the students to discuss professionalism hypotheticals. There are
overview speeches by the LSBA and a Supreme Court Justice in a plenary session before the breakout
groups.

-Southern – August 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
-LSU – August 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
-Loyola – date to be determined
-Tulane – date to be determined

Character and Fitness Q&A Programs

The Committee on the Profession conducts character and fitness programming to educate students
about the bar admissions process at all four law schools. Character and Fitness Programs are
conducted for 1Ls in the Spring and for 2Ls in August or early Fall. The 2L Character and Fitness
programming schedule is as follows:

- Tulane – August 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
- Southern – August 30, 2023 at noon
- LSU – August 30, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.
- Loyola – August 31, 2023 at 12:30 p.m.
