advocates, and members of the judiciary to educate
people on the new laws reducing legal barriers to people
released from incarceration.
• Hosted the Disability Law CLE on November 22, 2019
which provided attorneys with in-depth training on
representing clients with disabilities.
• Facilitated the 2019 Substantive Law Training Series for
Public Interest attorneys, providing CLEs in-person and
via simulcast. Recorded trainings and made available
online through the LSBA Vimeo page and ProBono.Net.
Trainings with materials on Family Law, Domestic
Violence, Successions, Social Security Disability,
Consumer and Bankruptcy are currently available.
• Hosted the Special Education Workshop in partnership
with Southern University Law Center on October 19,
2019 offering attorneys and members of the public an
opportunity to learn more about laws, policies, and
procedures relating to special education.
▪ Coordinate the statewide legal services disaster response plan;
Successfully tested new disaster response plan during Hurricane
Barry.
The Disaster Preparedness and Response subcommittee has met
since March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing together
Justice Community members to provide a coordinated response.
In response to Hurricane Laura, the subcommittee again implemented
the Statewide Disaster Plan for Legal Assistance. LA Appleseed
completed the update of the disaster training manual for volunteers.
The 1-800-310-7029 disaster hotline was activated and provides a
recorded message providing referral information. In addition, the LSBA
Disaster Response website was activated providing vital legal
information and volunteer opportunities for attorneys. Free legal
answers has become an integral component of disaster response.
The ATJ Disaster Response subcommittee continues to meet not only
in response to the pandemic and Hurricane Laura, but also Hurricanes
Delta and Zeta.

aid providers; and
o Coordinate substantive law task forces (CINC, Elder Law,
Family Law, Housing and Consumer Law, Public Benefits)
