The media and information literacy skills for adolescents and youths may be promoted in the following
ways:
Creating adolescent and youth-friendly national policy for ensuring proper use of media and
information.
Strengthening the enactment of Right to Information Act 2009.
Promoting institutionalization of media and information literacy by incorporating it into
mainstream curricula.
Creating awareness about adolescent roles and rights as responsible citizens of the country
through campaign, rally, speech, training, seminars, etc.
Creating an environment and culture conducive to developing moral and ethical values of
adolescents and youths for using media and information.
Ensuring social engagement of adolescents and youths by developing appropriate formal and
institutionalized forum/platform for sharing knowledge, innovations, ideas and experiences.
Organizing various events and programs for developing creativity, life-skills, capacity, behavioral
attitudes, and mental health of adolescents and youths towards dealing with a wide range of
networked media and information systems.
Encouraging public-private partnership in minimizing information poverty and informational
malnutrition among all people including adolescents and youths within the country.
Thus, the adolescents and youths should be empowered with proper cognitive and critical thinking skills
to explore the quality information from the media, evaluate it with trust and judgment, engage and
exposure to media content as a part of modern life, and enlighten themselves with values, ethics and self-
esteem.
