In the present moment our world is fighting with two types of epidemic the 1 one is CORONA Virus
pandemic and the 2 one is Disinfodemic, and I think the second was is more hazardous for our
nd
society than the first one and it is creating more crisis to our life.
So at the outset of our study we need to have a clear idea about disinformation and after that the
Disinfodemic and finally Media & Information Literacy. We will discuss in our study how Disinfodemic
is creating confusion and mess in our society and how we can be able to resist Disinfodemic by learning
Media and Information Literacy
In general Disinformation is false or misleading information that is spread deliberately to deceive. This
is a subset of misinformation. If information is empowering, then disinformation is disempowering.
Disinfodemic is nothing but the mixture of “Disinformation” and “Epidemic” that generally refers to a
rapid and far reaching spread of inaccurate or wrong information about something.
Viz. Covid-19(Corona Virus) Crisis.
The main focus of our study is too highlighting the dangerous side of Disinfodemic as well as the
significance of knowing and learning Media and Information literacy and how it will help people to resist
Disinfodemic.
It is a matter of great regret that Disinfodemic is creating life and death issue in this time of Corona
Virus Pandemic. We are being surrounded by fake and false information about Covid-19 which is
very much deadlier. Innocent People are believing false and misleading information regarding Corona
Virus and becoming confused and making the situation more complicated. This is happening because
most of the people of our world do not know much about the media and information literacy. They
easily believe any information whatever they hear from the media. Most of the people do not even
think twice before sharing any type of news with their family and friends. They do not bother about
the source of the information, what is the authenticity of the information or what is the purpose of that
information. This is really disappointing for us. This Disinfodemic would not happen if people
become media and information literate. So it is the high time to learn media and information literacy
for each and every people of the world.
