Military Children program

Nguyen, 18, was selected
based on her meritorious
achievement in academic
studies, citizenship, commu-
nity activities and leadership.
She recently graduated Silver
Valley High School and plans
to attend the University of
California, Los Angeles, us-
ing her scholarship towards
medical school.

Four thousand applica-
tions were submitted for this
year’s scholarships. The num-
ber of scholarships awarded
each year is based on funds
available, but the program
awards at least $2,000 to each
military commissary.
