8 ELEMENTS OF AN MCI
1. DATE IT.
The most important thing you will ever do is put a date on your dream. Dreams without deadlines are dead ends.
Something will happen at your church when you say “On February 12 we will.......( ll in the blank)” When you say this date (the exact date) people will lean in and listen to you.
• Intentionally choosing the date is essential. Here are some critical elements to the picking up this date.
• You are looking for the “date” this change initiative will o cially happen.
• Think in terms of 3-9 months depending on MCI.
• Determine the best time of the year. For many churches, this is September, February (after the Super Bowl) or right around Easter.
• Get a countdown clock. Count down the days with your in uencers and team.
2. NAME IT!
The name of your MCI is essential. How you frame the MCI may be one of the most important decisions you make. The title creates buy-in from the congregation and casts a visionary picture.
Here are some examples of di erent churches’ MCI titles:
• All In
• 2.12.12
• I See a Church
• To Be the Church
• Making Room
• Compelled
• Hope Initiative
3. REMEMBER THE 20% RULE (THREE MCI GAME CHANGERS)
For an airplane to get o the ground, it takes 20% of its fuel. This is also true for any new initiative to gain traction. You have to invest 20% of your energy and bandwidth, or it will fail.
