Renovations Set to Begin to Restore Part of History on

        Michigan Avenue

              ou may have noticed
              some movement at 637 E.
        YMichigan Ave., the former
        Lansing Clara’s location. With one
        tenant lease signed and interest
        in available space, Gillespie
        Group is starting the renovations
        needed to prepare the building
        for its occupants.

        Renovations on the 120-year-
        old building have started with
the work needed to bring the
        building to an occupiable status
        and a familiar refreshed look.
The upgrades will include a new
        roof, necessary structural and
        flooring repairs, new plumbing
        and electrical throughout, and
restoring the exterior of the original
        Lansing Train Depot. The current
tenant plans to open in fall 2022.

        While the Lansing State Journal
        announced the current tenant as
        one of Starbucks’ new community
store formats and its first store
        in downtown Lansing and the
        Stadium District, Gillespie Group
        is excited about Starbuck’s desire
to value and respect the history
of not only the building but the
        community. They have already
        incorporated this history into their
        plans for their new space.

“Our goal was to honor the history
        and memories of the community
by bringing in a user who would
infuse new energy into the space
while giving a nod to its previous
        uses, which were also incredibly
impactful on the community,” said Pat Gillespie, “We are seeking a user to occupy Suite B and the train
president of Gillespie Group. “We are pleased with the car, which provides the community an experience.
proposed plans made by the user to invest in Lansing, the A user who will complement the current tenant
community, and that history into its space.” and continue to radiate energy from the property
throughout the evening hours – a restaurant,
Further proving their desire to create outstanding entertainment, or other similar user,” said Megan
experiences, Gillespie Group has plans to include at least Weber, real estate coordinator, Gillespie Group. “Suite
one pocket park along Michigan Avenue with greenery, B encompasses 4,045 square feet of indoor and train
flowers, and benches, as well as keep the infamous train car space, as well as the ability for an outdoor patio
car on site. Gillespie Group has added it into the available overlooking Michigan Avenue – it really is a unique
space for Suite B totaling 4,045 square feet. opportunity right off Michigan Avenue.” l
