THIS WEEK’S BIBLE INSIGHTS ARE BY:
Amy Boucher-Pye and are based on Psalm 19 (NIV)
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ MORE ON THIS WEEK’S MAJOR THEME:
Romans 10
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. 5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are
radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. 11 By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. 13 Keep your servant also from wilful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. 14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Sunday June 2 - Who paints the sky
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1
Welcome to one of the most beautiful of the psalms. Indeed, CS Lewis said of it, “I take this to be the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world.” In it we experience not only soaring imagery about the majesty of God but also a full acknowledgement of the fallenness of humanity and our need for God and his law and love.
David’s song of worship starts off with the truth of how creation pulses with praise for its Creator; how the glories of the skies with their majestic colours, or the cloud formations that shift and move, or the brightness of shades of blue that dazzle the eye, all resound in worship to the One who made the earth.
We too can use this connection of the glories of nature to communicate God’s love and creativity when we converse with those who may not yet know and serve him. For instance, a shared connection of wonder over the beauty of a sky painted in purples, pinks and oranges could lead to a gentle exploration of the One who made those skies.
But of course we can also simply stop and marvel as we praise our loving God who made the earth such a stupendous place to live. Why not join me in pausing for a moment to worship and give thanks?
Creator God, thank you for the beauty of the mountains, for refreshing streams, for flowers that defy description. I worship you. Amen.
