THIS WEEK’S BIBLE INSIGHTS ARE BY:
Ian Moore and are based on Matthew 11:25-30 (NIV)
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ MORE ON THIS WEEK’S MAJOR THEME:
 Luke 10:1-24
25At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27
“All things have been
committed to me by my Father. No-one knows the Son except the Father, and no-one knows the
Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  Sunday April 7 - Let’s stay teachable!
“...you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children.” Matthew 11:25
Prior to today’s text, Jesus denounced five unrepentant towns, that were unmoved even after witnessing the miraculous. They failed to acknowledge the ‘signs of the kingdom’ which often carry deep significance beyond supernatural provision. In response to the people’s hardness of heart, Jesus ‘shook the dust from his feet’. The people were unteachable; there is little God can do for a ‘know it all’ person!
This is the essence behind Jesus saying, “...unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). It is humbling when God uses a child, or even an unbeliever, who in our own minds does not use the ‘right’ words or have a ‘correct’ understanding of the ways of God. The reality is that the only one who knows it all is God; he alone is unteachable! So when approaching the all-knowing, unteachable One, it must be on the basis of our need to gain understanding and revelation. ‘Teach me your ways, O Lord’ (Psalm 86:11) should be our attitude to prayer.
Paul, surely a first-century ‘Mensa’ candidate, saw it this way: ‘But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong’ (1 Corinthians 1:27). What is it that the Lord wants to teach you today? Why not ask? The answer might just surprise you!
Father, please forgive me when I move away from the place of childlike dependence. Teach me your ways, Lord, for your glory. Amen.
