The input of young people is critical in understanding what is working and what would be more
helpful, for those who are struggling to connect with learning, or already disengaged. CCLLEN and
the Campaspe Shire Council engaged Youth Gurus to consult with young people across the Shire
and learn more about their situations, challenges and lived experience. More than 2800 young
people in Campaspe participated in focus groups, surveys and activities to contribute their voices
to the consultation. The final report is due in early 2020.
A variety of careers events were held throughout the year, with CCLLEN either organising the event,
assisting with organising the event, and/or coordinating and funding transport to the event. Eight
events were held, and all schools participated in at least one event with more than 900 students
attending. Student evaluation forms consistently showed raised awareness of careers and pathways,
and greater interest in industry sectors, than prior to events.
CCLLEN continued to support the Koorie Homework Group run by Njernda and assisted with the
applications for funding for 2019 and 2020. The Group has regular attendance of 10 to 12 students
each week, aged from upper primary to Year 12. Njernda provides healthy food and free wifi for
students. CCLLEN also maintained good relationships with the Koorie Engagement Support Officers
across the schools, Victoria Police’s Aboriginal Liaison Officers and other key stakeholders in the
Koorie community.
