Youth Partnerships Outcomes
Murray Life Adventures
Murray Life Adventures is set along the Murray River and includes challenging activities that foster
teamwork, communication and problem solving. Facilitators link the experiences to the world of
work. Twenty-three students from St Joseph’s College, Echuca College and Echuca Specialist
School attended the program, and participated in activities including rock climbing, abseiling, flying
fox, fishing and team work puzzles using obstacles.
During the program all students improved their self-confidence, communication, peer relations and
leadership skills. The Specialist students were ‘achieving more than they thought they could’ with
the physical nature of many of the activities. All students at the end of the program agreed that they
could finish year 12 if they work hard, compared to 58% at the beginning.
Funds from the Ross Trust were used to pay for the program and bus hire to transport students.
• I felt brave and confident, I enjoyed working with other
people.
• I learned that if you try hard enough and think about it,
you are able to do it.
• I learned to never give up on myself.
Junior Park Rangers
Students improved in confidence, working with others, speaking and listening. They engaged with
the learning activities and enjoyed the experiences.
Students enjoyed interacting with the animals, including handling them, feeding them, cleaning
enclosures and planting vegetables that would later be used as feed. Throughout this they also
learnt about the animals.
