Continuum of Need

The Continuum of Need is a tool for mapping a young person on a continuum to determine their
level of need against a wide range of domains that support their health, wellbeing and development.
CCLLEN is maintaining and regularly adding to the directory of services that is linked to the
             Continuum of Need mapping tool.

At the request of schools CCLLEN had arranged a professional development session in May 2018.
This created a lot of interest across schools and agencies. Schools have been impressed by the
directory and can see the value of mapping students to better understand their needs and the
supports that could assist them. As a result schools requested further training.
CCLLEN and School Focused Youth Service arranged for Vanessa McCormack from St Arnaud
Secondary College and Maurice Billi from Grampians Community Health to provide a second
professional development session in Echuca for schools and agencies to explore in more detail
the use of the tool. Thirty people attended this session in April 2019. A highlight was mapping three
case studies of young people using the tool, and the rich conversations each table had as they
             worked through each case study.
The last session for the day was presented by Tracey Farrell on the Campaspe Core Competencies
Project. Tracey focused on the impacts of trauma on brain development and included the short
documentary “Resilience” on research into trauma and the strategies being used by schools in the
             USA.

It was a very full and intense PD day, from which participants reported they gained a lot and felt
much more confident with mapping students.
