CHAIRMAN’S CHAT
Transporter Talk No 144
Well, Christmas is just a memory and we are fully recovered from the New Year celebrations so it’s time to plan! Connie is in the workshop undergoing her winter overhaul ready for the annual round of camping and exploring. Abbie is “Malcolm’s little helper” and thinks that running o with my tools is all part of the game!... Now which owerbed is my 19mm spanner in?
As I want to engage the membership in actually taking part in running the club, I have decided to call another AGM but with a di erent format to before. This will be an AGM only; no subsidised camping, no trips, just a meeting to count votes and welcome new members to the committee. A number of existing committee members will be camping at one of the nearby sites and there is a meeting room for a get together in the evening.
You will nd a committee nomination form in the centrefold of this magazine for anyone who is a member to apply to be on the committee. If you do not wish to post a form, scanned images or email applications can also be made.
So that members have an idea for whom they are voting for, each person who applies is requested to send in a brief personal statement and photograph for inclusion in the next
magazine. This magazine will also contain a voting form with a new format; each candidate (including the existing committee) will be listed and any member may cast a vote for any or all candidates. Unlike previous elections, it will not be possible to cast votes against or record abstentions. Candidates with the highest number of votes will win, just like parliamentary elections. Further details of postal and email voting will be given in the next magazine.
Once elected the committee will agree on what o ce each successful candidate will be o ered and candidates may like to indicate what o ce they are interested to take up.
This is part of my plan to engage you in running your club and I hope that you take this opportunity to participate.
Back to the workshop, I was lucky enough to be given a reversing camera system for my birthday and that is my next job. Reversing is always a worry and now I have a trailer to tow, much harder! The screen is mounted but now for the cameras... oh did I mention a 4 camera system so I can see everything. I hope to be able to overhaul Connie’s JX engine and t a set of new pistons to cut the oil consumption and emissions of black smuts. This is along with many other improvements ready for this year’s adventures.
The membership stand will be at several shows this year so I look forward to meeting you all at least once during the year even if you do not make it to the AGM. Just look for the black gazebo with the yellow ags!
Happy New Year
Malcolm
