Scholarship News
Well done and congratulations to the following pupils who have gained scholarships and awards to their senior schools already this year:
Nursery 2 have been learning about the phonemes m,d,g,o,u and l. They have also been improving their knowledge of numbers and quantities 1 to 5. This has been done through a range of fun activities, which have included rolling a dice and feeding that quantity of fish to a rather large penguin. To add extra fun, Mrs Plowman has been hiding inside and speaking to the children in her penguin voice! With a large quantity of snowball pom-poms, the children have had to pick out five and try to throw them into a bucket. They then counted how many they had thrown successfully and recorded their results on the whiteboard by drawing the correct number of circles. We have produced some excellent displays, which include paintings of snowmen, winter trees, tigers and Chinese writing. Mrs Detheridge now teaches Forest School to Nursery 2 and Reception and together they have explored the grounds for signs of Spring and visited the Tree House to do some bird spotting. All children continue to make progress with their swimming and balls skills such as catching, throwing and kicking have developed during PE lessons.
In Reception, children have been learning about seasonal change in their ‘Winter Topic’. They have studied snowdrops and trees in winter. They have identified deciduous and evergreen trees in the school grounds and have produced some beautiful artwork which now adorns the walls of their new classroom. The children have found out about a contrasting ‘cold’ location, Antarctica. They have made collage penguins and Jack Frosts too! During Forest School, Reception took part in the ‘Big Bird Watch’ using the superb viewing spot of the tree house and some binoculars!

Nursery 1 have had a very creative first half of term. They have painted pictures of snowmen and snowballs and have made a display- board based on one of their favourite Percy the Park Keeper stories, One Snowy Night. We celebrated Chinese New Year by making paper lanterns, tiger masks and a New Year party picnic bag in cookery. We have spent a lot of time looking at the birds on our bird table and in Outdoor Exploring the children have made fat balls to feed the birds and binoculars to try and spot them. We have been learning a different bird’s name each week and trying to spot them. So far, we have seen Great Tits, Blue Tits, Chaffinches, Robins and a Blackbird.
