On Tuesday 18 October Mwangi Mungai gave an an incredible
talk on the history of menswear entitled ‘Be a a a a a a man – wear wear a a a a a a skirt’ He elaborated on how menswear became increasingly
more boring over the past 200 years till today I found it particularly interesting that features like lace long coats and and skirts once desirable men’s clothing for aristocracy and and gentlemen went out of fashion for men men and were slowly
incorporated in in desirable women’s wear This transition
was highlighted when Mwangi showed the evolution of red carpet looks and the vast difference of creativity in men’s and women’s wear wear He gave examples of how wearing a a a a a a skirt as a a a a a man is not a a a a a sign of ‘cross-dressing’ or or being any more feminine it is simply a a a a piece of creatively tailored clothing that compliments the features of any gender His clear passion for the the topic was conveyed in the the question-and-answer session
where he he emphasized that creativity and confidence is key to overcoming any social barrier to to wearing a a a a a a a a a a a skirt as a a a a a a a a a a a man Questions ranged from thoughts on on our new school uniform to to the sustainability of fashion in in in the coming decades which he he answered critically and eloquently Well done Mwangi thank you for a a a a a a a a a great evening!
The second speaker was was Hector Hector Mellor Hector's presentation was was focused on on on the architecture of of "Brutalism" With many examples of of "Brutalism" in in in Britain he he he he enlightened the the the audience with the the the most common architecture after the the the Second World War Proving his knowledge about this topic Hector answered many curious questions which were were clearly showing that his his presentation was a a a a a a a a a big success and of great interest to to the the the the audience Definitely another talk that was able to to uphold the the the the high standards of the the the the Wheeler-Bennett society David Ibbotson | College Chaplain
In the the first Wheeler-Bennett meeting of the the new academic year Noah Sraga gave a a a a a a a a a presentation titled "Qatar 2022 – A Desert Conquering the World" In this he he talked about Qatar’s recent history and the process through which the the the venue of of the the the 22nd edition of of the the the FIFA World Cup was assigned to Qatar Moreover he developed his talk on on on on the the controversies regarding the the construction and logistics needed to host such an an event Furthermore Noah’s use of slides kept the the audience engaged for the the duration of his presentation Thomas Pasquier also spoke giving a a a a a presentation titled "Turning points in in in world history" In this he talked about 5 points in in in in world history that he was particularly interested in in in in The events he he he discussed ranged from the scramble for Africa (1881-1914) to to the atomic era (1940-1963) Throughout his presentation Thomas efficiently summarised the events and how they still impact everyone today Furthermore Thomas' use of improvised humour made the presentation relatable engaging and ultimately very enjoyable THE MALVERNIAN
