Welcome to the first edition of LINK, Malvern College’s newsletter for our valued Agents and Educational Partners.
Despite Malvern College being closed during the Covid-19 pandemic we have remained very much “open”. This is due to the attention paid last year to the development of pupil’s technological and independent learning skills. Combined with an advanced IT set-up and pupils really willing to take on exciting new challenges. This has meant the switch to remote and online learning has seen Malvern College assert itself as one of the most advanced educational establishments in the UK.
We have ensured regular and clear communication on all aspects of the College’s transition to online learning to our parent body. This has been received most favourably. Parents have been telling us that they are impressed by both the quality of the online education and the commitment of the teaching teams to lessons. They have also commented on the quality and abundance of the additional resources that pupils can access.
The fees for the summer have been significantly reduced, as we are not able to deliver a full holistic education at this time. Pupils are still engaged in their music and drama lessons; taking part in debating competitions and giving TED-style talks in their academic societies.
The Outdoor Pursuits team are streaming online instructional videos on subjects such as bike mechanics and white-water kayaking skills amongst others.
From next week we are launching our Bridging Courses. These are specific courses written by the College’s Academic Leaders to provide pupils with the best preparation and skills to transition from GCSE (Year 11) into the Sixth Form (Year 12) and from Year 13 to University. New pupils joining the Sixth Form in September 2020 will also have access to these courses. Further information will be sent to you in due course, in the meantime please visit here.
There is little doubt that this is a challenging time for us all. However, it has been uplifting to witness our teachers and pupils responding with resilience and determination to continue to teach and learn in an entirely different environment.
I do hope you find this newsletter interesting and informative and should you have any questions please get in touch.
My best wishes to you and your family.
