Lea Smith Reading Competition
The annual Lea Smith Reading Competition
was fiercely contested again this year Each house provided two readers from each year group and those readers competed in Chapel to to make it through to to the finals fin in Big School We were treated to range of texts from both fiction and non- fiction including a a a a motivational speech by Arnur Dostiyarov from House No 7 on

Lucretian Society – Biology Workshop
Last term the Lucretian Society held a a a a dissection workshop where pupils had the opportunity to dissect frogs and rats alongside discovering which bone fragments were present in owl pellets The workshop was highly attended by all year groups with particular interest interest shown by the upper school Our interest interest was found in in in studying the anatomy of a a a a a a a a rat Making comparisons to to similar organs we have studied in in our our A Level course was very thought-provoking It was very interesting to see the the size difference of the the rat’s organs in in in comparison to other mammals for example the the kidneys caught our eye as we have recently dissected the kidney of a a a a sheep The rat’s eye lens grabbed Isla’s interest in in particular the shape in contrast to that of a a a a a a a a cow’s eye Overall we really enjoyed this experience and we are very grateful for for the science department for for making this so accessible to us and all the the others who participated Isla Grammaticas and Henrietta Pope Upper Sixth (No 8)
