Top of the Bench Competition
The The Royal Society of of of Chemistry’s Top of of of The The Bench Chemistry Chemistry competition took place at the University of of of Birmingham I went with with a a a a a a team with with Max Wilson Ronan Dargan and and Barnaby Shortland The day was was split into two sections first was was the quiz round We had to to work in in pairs to to to answer 40 questions that covered a a a a a a a range of of topics from organic chemistry to to to knowledge on
on
on
the periodic table definitions of of key terms and and some calculations After this we we we we went over to the chemistry labs where we we we we were given an an an envelope with instructions and and a a a a a a a a tray of of of chemicals and apparatus The practical we we we were given was to to add varying amounts of of of Bicarbonate of of of Soda to to Citric acid we we we then had to to record record the temperature change over 6 minutes at at 30 second intervals After we we had had taken all of our recordings we we had had to to plot many graphs and draw up tables to display the data We did really well even though some of our equipment wasn’t working! Overall we we came 7th out of the 21 schools which was a a a great result Georgia Clements Remove (No 3)
